How lucky are we? Another Frilly Lilly boutique to welcome to the family! Frilly Lilly East Village is now open in one of Downtown Calgary’s coolest new neighbourhoods. Mother-daughter duo Connie and Holly can’t wait to welcome you to their beautiful new space. In the meantime, get to know them with this Q&A!

1) What made you decide to open your own Frilly Lilly boutique? 

Connie: My daughter Holly’s passion for Frilly Lilly got me excited to be a part of it.

Holly: After working for Frilly Lilly for over four years at another boutique, I knew it was the next step to take (and it was the right one)!

2) What excites you most about owning your own business? 

C: Creating a positive environment for our clients to be their best.

H: The feeling I get to create with the people that come into Frilly Lilly. It’s always been a place I consider my home, and I want people to feel just as welcome.

3) What advice would you give your 10-year old self?

C: Enjoy every day and don’t be in a rush to grow up.

H: Don’t listen to the negative people that you will encounter. Pave your own way.

4) What is your favourite thing about Calgary?

C: My whole family is here!

H: It’s home.

5) If you could have brunch with any woman (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

C: My Mom, she’s my best friend and confidante.

H: Ellen! Do I really need to explain this one?

6) Name the person who has inspired you most in your life? 

C: My Dad.

H: My family.

7) What is your favourite Frilly Lilly product? 

C: I love all of our Body Scrubs, but picking a favourite scent is way too tough.

H: I love our Bikini Care Solution. It’s the best after care product I’ve ever used.

We’re delighted to announce the opening of our newest boutique, Frilly Lilly East Village in Calgary! We love this hip new offshoot of the downtown core, it’s totally our kind of place!

Construction is nearly complete, and (fingers crossed everyone!) we’re hoping to open the first week of September. We’ll be offering all of our signature waxing, mani, and pedi services, as well as the usual retail extravaganza.

Frilly Lilly Shawnessy, our newest boutique, is now open in Southwest Calgary! Melissa and Rayelene are the brains, brawn, and beauty behind this operation. You’ll surely see their smiling faces when you visit, but in the meantime get to know them with this Q&A!

1) What made you decide to open your own Frilly Lilly boutique?

Melissa: I was a client at the flagship store in Mission and fell in love with the décor and concept. The waxing techniques Frilly Lilly uses are like no other!

Rayelene: My fabulous business partner Melissa and her husband inspired me to get involved.

2) What excites you most about owning your own business?

M: Being able to make people feel special and create a positive space that our clients will always feel welcome in.

R: It has been a dream to own my own business for such a long time, and now it’s finally happening!

3) What advice would you give your 10-year old self?

M: Stay true to yourself and follow your dreams. You’ll surprise yourself.

R: Don’t compare yourself to others, everyone has their own journey. Also, invest in Apple!

4) What is your favourite thing about Calgary?

M: It is so diverse and adaptable.

R: I love the lilacs in the springtime and being so close to the mountains.

5) If you could have brunch with any woman who would it be and why?

M: Oprah. She is a true inspiration.

R: Brené Brown. She’s an amazing author and speaker and is so insightful and inspiring.

Name the person who has inspired you most in your life?

M: My mother, she is a pillar of strength and is passionate about life!

R: My mother too!

What is your favourite Frilly Lilly product?

M: Argentinian Lemon Shea Butter Crème. So refreshing!

R: Lavender Shea Butter Crème. I think we’ve absolutely perfected the lavender scent.

What is your favourite book?

M: I love books that teach and provide constant growth and motivation.

R: I love a good book, especially one I can’t put down after I start it. The most recent example of that is “The Kitchen House” by Kathleen Grissom.

Why hello darling!

This is Monica, from Gisele Chic Blog. I’m so excited to share my favorite brunch spots in Santa Monica! As a lifestyle blogger and twenty-something in Los Angeles I am always on the hunt for great spots to meet with girlfriends on the weekend. I’ve rounded up my most classic and beloved places to throw on some sunnies, drink a mimosa and recap the week’s highlights. Enjoy!

1. Ivy at the Shore

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. As indicated, it’s right on ocean avenue in Santa Monica, a hop, skip and jump from beautiful outdoor views of the shore. It’s as if the The Beverly Hills Hotel became a beach club. With the consistent prestige in service and food as all the other Ivy locations, but with a more summer like aesthetic. A great place for a celebration with girlfriends or nice brunch with parents. The smoked salmon benedict is my favorite menu item there and don’t forgot to order the yummy red velvet cake or take home the cookies to go (that come in an adorable box for all the aesthetic obsessed like myself)!

2. Coast at Shutters on the Beach

As promised, Shutters brings the East coast style right to the West coast. You literally can eat the best lobster roll in Los Angeles and see those Cali surfer boys at the same time. It’s a great spot for brunch but also a perfect place to enjoy a sunset glass of rosé. I love their oysters and they serve sweets from my favorite LA bakery, SusieCakes right on site. Make sure to wear a preppy cover up and sandals for an obligatory post meal walk on the beach!

3. Groundwork Coffee

It’s a super easy and causal brunch spot with the best truffle avocado toast! I love the outdoor seating and how close the bikes from the Santa Monica Bike Share are. A perfect place to grab a bite with girlfriends before running Saturday errands on Montana, like my monthly wax at Frilly Lilly, cute boutiques and a bike ride to the beach nearby. It’s also a great spot to grab a latte and do some work. I love the clean open space and people watching during the week.

4.  Salt Air

So this spot is next door to Santa Monica, on Abbot Kinney in Venice. It’s an amazing restaurant with some of the best seafood in town. I am obsessed with their tomato soup (see here on my Instagram), which I know isn’t a super brunch-like order but trust me when I say it’s so worth it! It has a cheese foam pour that is to die for and for anyone who loves grilled cheese and tomato soup from childhood, I can assure you it checks all boxes, and then more! It’s a very pretty, beachy, clean space with beautiful light at brunch time. My other favorite order is the gravlax with a crispy poached egg. The pea toast is also a crowd pleaser, sounds weird, but everyone at the table will love!

5. Blue Plate

Another lovely spot on the amazing Montana Ave in Santa Monica, far from the touristy third street promenade and walking distance from the Frilly Lilly boutique. It’s a very simple menu with table service and good eats. It’s perfect for kids and has all the standard brunch and lunch items you and your guests might want. I love this place because I can come in whatever attire. Whether it be lululemon pants or a cute sundress and still feel completely accepted by the casual chic Santa Monica style. They also have another seafood restaurant nearby on Ocean Avenue for lunch/dinner that I am obsessed with, Blue Plate Oysterette, with the most amazing mac and cheese!!!
